Note: This site is from www.simplepctalk.com. I also experience this troubles that’s why I post it in my site based on my years of experience as a computer technician.Almost every day, I work on computers where the hard drive fails. The failure often leaves the user in a state of panic. Why panic? They usually do not have their data backed-up. It is frustrating to me that they have no back-up of data when they have a CD/DVD burner, flash drive, or access to a server for storing data.
Why hard drives fail? The question is not really why, buy when. Hard drives are man-made and will fail at some point. Hard drives are susceptible to heat, humidity, dust, electromagnetism, static electricity, and rough handling.
Your data can become corrupt or lost due to a hard drive failure. Data can also become corrupt because of an improper shut down, poorly written software, viruses, and mechanical issues.
Myth: I will know when my hard drive is about to fail. Truth: Maybe not. There are systems like SMART that will give a warning before hard drive failure. However, even if you have SMART enabled in your BIOS, you may have an unexpected failure.
Your system may give you some signs that the hard drive is about to fail. For example: unusual hard drive noises, unexpected shut downs, BSOD (blue screen of death), error messages, files/data disappear, and file folder name changes.
What to do if you receive any signs of failure? If you hear unusual noises, shut the system down immediately. Turning off the system may allow any remaining life in the drive to be used for backing up data. In case of other signs: Back up your data!

Although we have renamed Hijackthis to sniper, we will still refer to it as Hijackthis or HJT.
Post the HJT log back here.
How familiar does the following sound? Your computer was working fine, but then suddenly started locking up (aka hanging or freezing), rebooting itself (crashing) or shutting down spontaneously? If you know only too well what I am talking about, then read on! Performing the simple steps below can fix the majority of lockup cases.
This is a guide on how to do backups from inaccessible harddrives and partitions.
Before you continue I want you to know that this is not 100% guaranteed to work.
But from experience I can tell you it works in 80% of the cases I have come across.
You will need the following.
A bootable linux cd/dvd.
A 2nd harddrive or external harddrive/usb memory.
I recommend Knoppix due to it being so user-friendly.
I will continue with the guide step by step so that everyone will understand it as easy as possible.
Step One.
Insert the Linux cd/dvd in your cd/dvd rom and reboot your system so that you are prompted to boot to the cd/dvd.
Hit enter as instructed and the boot process will commence.
The boot process can take 2-10 minutes depending on your system and the read speed of your cd/dvd rom.
Step Two.
When you first enter you will have a welcome window pop up, Just close it, It will be in the way for what we’re gonna do.
You should have the desktop right in front of you, Not very different from Windows when you think about it.
Instead of "Start" (Windows XP) or the Crystal Ball (Windows Vista) you have a K.
Now depending on your system setup you should see your harddrive or your partitions on the desktop.
However they aren’t known as C, D, E etc as they are in windows.
Instead they are named as hda1, hda2, sda1 and so on.

To perform a soft reset:
If your Pocket PC Phone responds slowly stops responding or freezes, try soft resetting it. A soft reset causes the Pocket PC Phone to restart and re-adjust memory allocation. Unsaved data in open windows may be lost.
• Use the stylus to press and hold the Reset button.
1. Soft Reset. Press into the hole with the end of your stylus to reset your device
To perform a full reset - hard reset:
A full device reset clears memory, deletes all data and restores the Pocket PC Phone to its default settings. Programs installed at the factory remain, while data you have created and programs you have installed are erased.
1. Unscrew the stylus and use the smaller point of the top-half.
2. Press the battery switch once to turn it off, and then once more to turn it back on.
